Samsung will Launch Smartphone with the (YOUM) Flexible Display This Year?

YOUM, Samsung’s Flexible Display

Samsung has officially introduced their innovation, flexible display which is also known as YOUM last april. Now, Samsung may be realize the flexible AMOLED display on their device soon. As quoted Viewsmartphone via DDaily, Samsung reportedly will begin to produce AMOLED display in this quarter.

YOUM is a flexible display that is very thin, even thinner than the existing panel. YOUM has  0.6mm at the thickness point,  that means three times thinner than the existing display panel that has 1.8mm thick.

According to the report, in the early stages YOUM will be protected by a non-flexible glass instead of a flexible plastic layer used in flexible devices. Samsung also reportedly has plans to launch a device with an ultra thin flexible AMOLED display later this year. However, mass production of flexible display panel may be done in the next 2 years.

The display panel manufacturers in Taiwan reportedly also developed a flexible display. This means that Samsung will get a competitor.
